Is the third wave inevitable?

This article will walk you through the current numbers, conditions in different states, then we will quickly know the expert opinion, then we will discuss if the third wave is inevitable, and finally, a short FAQ on the third wave.

So before we begin here are 3 major reasons why people may end up helping the virus spread:

1) Awareness & education: You can hear people say things like Covid-19 is a joke/scam/panic-game created by riches to exploit the poor.
Some people think it’s not that harmful. It’s just the flu.
Sure, until it’s inside your throat causing unbearable pain – and worse killing you or your loved one.

2) Lack of belief in science: “Mantras of established baba will cure covid-19. “It’s just another Nazar on the family.”
We just need to do some priest’s tricks of religion.
Does everything need to be connected with religion?

3) Aversion to follow rules: Muje Kuch Nahi Hota. Nothing happens to me.
When Lord Rama was dividing wisdom & strength in equal proportion, this person may have got a disproportionate amount of strength. LOL

Current Numbers & Conditions of Different States

As of 26th September, the last 7 day average of total positive cases in-country is 28,000+.

As of 26th September, the number of people who have gotten first does is 63crore+. The number of people who got both doses is 22cr+.

Kerala is suffering 60% of the country’s cases.

We NEED to avoid large gatherings, acc. to the medical body of India.

The second wave is not over yet. We are observing 28k+ cases every day in the country, Kerala & Maharashtra being the worst-affected states. Mumbai is likely to be hit by the third wave soon – some doctors are saying it might be already there, but we’re better prepared for this time.

The Delta variant is more contagious and deadlier than previous versions, if a new variant develops, it’ll be of even more danger and infectious.

When will the third wave come in India?

Endemic: In epidemiology, an infection is said to be endemic in a population when that infection is constantly maintained at a baseline level.
So what’s our baseline?
70-80% of our population has got infected with the virus. It is unlikely that a major wave will affect us on an as big scale as the second wave did. Even if the third wave is to show its effect, it’ll be in small geographical areas instead of a nationwide effect.

According to India Today’s report:

“Still a quarter of the country’s population is susceptible to the virus. So will we be able to achieve within that quarter the same numbers and the same patterns that we saw in the second wave? That I think is unlikely. What will we see is local flare-ups that will be smaller and spread wider across the country. Now if that will collect to form the third wave, that may happen if we have a lot of behavior change around festivals, but the scale is not going to be anything like what we saw before,” according to vaccinologist Dr. Gangandeep Kang. Source.

If the mutation were to happen there’s a huge danger. Vaccination is NOT the ultimate solution anyway. It barely increases our immunity for a limited period of time.

We must contain it aggressively for two reasons:
A) It will help in the prevention of the spread of the virus on a bigger level.
B) It will reduce the chances of developing a new variant.

FAQs for Covid-19 Third Wave

Q. Will Children be more infected due to the third wave?
A. There is no scientific evidence for such a claim according to Dr. Piyush Gupta.

Q. How careful should we be?

A. It is easy for me to preach to you that wear a mask, maintain social distancing, and wash your hands frequently.
However, I’d rather be honest. I don’t preach what I don’t practice. Sometimes I leave home without a mask. Sometimes I have a meeting with people at a closer distance. I rarely wash my hands just for covid caution.

Edit: But let me tell you guys, we can always start again.

It’s okay if you didn’t do well in past. We must promise ourselves that now onwards, we will strictly adhere to the rules. We don’t want to be the causes of the spread, do we? (A promise you are making to yourself and not to me or someone else.)

I hope this article could address your major concerns about the Third Wave. Share it with your friends and family so that their worries may soothe a bit.

See ya in our upcoming battles! 🙂
